What are the roles and responsibilities for Interior Designer?

  • Interior designers make indoor areas functional, safe, and attractive by efficient use of spaces and decorative items.
  • Advise client on interior design factors such as space planning, layout and use of furnishings or equipment, and colour coordination. 
  • Interior designers plan colour schemes, furniture, furnishings, decorations and arrangements as per client goals.
  • Inspect construction work on-site to ensure its adherence to the design plans. 
  • Render design ideas in the form of paste-ups or drawings. 
  • Use computer-aided drafting (CAD) and related software to produce construction documents. 
  • Confer with client to determine factors affecting interior planning environments, such as budget, architectural preferences, and purpose and function. 
  • Interior Designers estimate material requirements and costs, and present design to client for approval. 
  • They review and detail shop drawings for construction plans. 
  • Formulate an environmental plan to be practical, aesthetic, and conducive to intended purposes, such as raising productivity or selling merchandise. 
  • Design spaces to be environment friendly, using sustainable, recycled materials when feasible. 
  • Research and explore the use of new materials, technologies, and products to incorporate into designs. 
  • Coordinate with other professionals, such as contractors, architects, engineers, and plumbers, to ensure job success.
  • They subcontract fabrication, installation, and arrangement of carpeting.
  • It includes fixtures, accessories, draperies, paint and wall coverings, artwork, furniture, and related items.
